Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 906 -- LEAD ABATEMENT

SPONSOR: Engler (Casey)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special
Committee on Urban Issues by a vote of 9 to 0.

This bill changes the laws regarding lead abatement. Currently,
the Department of Health and Senior Services requires as a
condition of licensure that all lead abatement contractors
including, but not limited to, those engaged in project design,
risk assessment, or inspection to purchase and maintain liability
and errors and omissions insurance. The bill specifies that only
persons or entities conducting abatement or deleading activities
purchase the insurance.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2007, FY 2008, and
FY 2009.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill requires only those
people actually preforming lead removal to have this insurance.
This will make it easier to obtain the insurance.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Engler.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
